Abstract

An intersection, as the main meeting point of various vehicle flows from several approaches (Hobbs, 1995), is a location where vehicles can change direction or turn from a straight road (Department of Education and Culture, 1995). The increase in population and the development of the economic sector also affect the demand for mobility. This demand needs to be supported by improvements in the quantity and quality of transportation infrastructure and facilities. Inadequate transportation infrastructure management will create uncomfortable mobility conditions.The objective of this study is to determine the cycle time and degree of saturation for three-phase and four-phase signalized intersections at Retawu Street, Bondowoso Street, Gede Street, and Wilis Intersection in Malang City. This research uses existing traffic data from previous studies to design or evaluate intersection performance with three-phase and four-phase signal settings. Through planning and data analysis, the results show the optimal cycle time and degree of saturation, and the best plan is the four-phase design with a Level of Service C. The four-phase design has a cycle time of 107 seconds, with intergreen times of phase 1 = 40 s, phase 2 = 38 s, phase 3 = 37 s, and phase 4 = 48 s, and a degree of saturation (DS) of 0.50.
