Abstract

Cold Paving Hot Mix Asbuton (CPHMA) is an asphalt mixture that can be applied at low temperatures, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly than conventional asphalt. However, CPHMA mixtures still have shortcomings in terms of stability and resistance to environmental conditions. This study aims to investigate the effect of adding kemiri oil and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) additive on the characteristics of CPHMA asphalt mixtures. The research method used was a laboratory experiment by preparing several CPHMA mixture variations using kemiri oil and NaOCl. The tested characteristics included Marshall stability, flow, Marshall Quotient (MQ), Void in Mix (VIM), Void in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), and Void Filled with Bitumen (VFB). The test results were analyzed and compared with technical specifications based on Bina Marga standards. The results show that the addition of kemiri oil can improve mixture flexibility, while NaOCl functions to enhance bonding between particles in the mixture. The combination of both additives was proven to improve all test parameters. In the centrifuge test, an additive content of 1% produced the highest extract volume, indicating that the dissolution process was the most effective. In the liquid–liquid extraction test, the highest extraction efficiency was also achieved at 1% additive content, with a value of 85.27%. In the Marshall test, an additive content of 3% produced the highest stability value, indicating the best load-bearing capacity. Overall, this study successfully determined the optimum content of kemiri oil and NaOCl to produce a mixture with the best Marshall characteristics and in compliance with the applicable technical requirements.
